Who Adopts the Baby?
Cherie is a Caucasian baby girl who is 6 days old. Your group is an adoption placement council whose job is to find her a new home. You are given the following list of candidates. Whoever is not selected will be placed back in the pool and allowed to try again as another child comes available. The group must reach a consensus. (All members must agree). Who get to adopt Cherie?
Dr. Jonathan Skinner and Beverly Skinner
After working as a Journalist for 10 years, Beverly has "Earned her right to be a homemaker. She worked to pay her husband’s way through medical school. He is a cardiovascular surgeon, works around 70 hours every week, and makes more than $200,000 yearly. Beverly’s infertility has taken toll on the marriage but they are sure a child will be perfect prescription for them. Both John and Bev are atheists.
Peter Sterner
He is an executive for Walt Disney Corporation: He works 40 hours a week. He graduated with a MBA in Organizational Management and Bachelors in Child Psychology. His income is in excess of 1.6 million a year. He is homosexual and does not intend to marry. He promises to hire a full time nanny to care for the child. He intends to be a full time parent.
Anthony and Kimberly Witherspoon
The Witherspoons are a young Afro-American couple who has no problems with an interracial adoption. Kim grew up in Pine Bluff Arkansas and Anthony in Springfield Missouri. They now reside in Detroit Michigan. Both work outside the home, but if the adoption is successful, Kim intends to go to work part time with the help of moving a fax and computer home to complete her work. Their combined income is around $60,000.
Phyllis Lair
After winning a gold medal in swimming and a gold medal for her participation on the women’s basketball team, she received a job hosting Wide World of Sports. She is not dating anyone and has no plans to marry in the future. Her job keeps her very busy. Phyllis intends to hire a nanny to help her raise her child and her employer assures that she will be allowed to fulfill her role as mother while working on the set. Se makes $200,000 a year and her salary is likely to skyrocket. She is Caucasian.
Alex and Niki Tyler
Alex is finishing his second year as professor of communication at the University of Arkansas. His students adore him and he is well respected by his colleagues. Nikki works at Microsoft as an engineer. Both come form affluent Mormon families and Alex is the Bishop at the local ward (church congregation). Niki plans to quit entirely to raise the baby girl. The couple is Caucasian.
David Patterson
David is and actor on Seinfeld. David is the youngest in a large family of 9 children and adores all of his 21 nieces and nephews. He has been dating Kourtney for a year now and intends to marry her. David knows that Kourtney is unable to have children. Both make prominent salaries in the entertainment industry. Both are Caucasian.
Mike and Susan Ward
Mike is a mechanic at Kenworth and Susan works at Bill’s hamburgers part-time, as a waitress. They have been married for 5 years. The couple’s combined income is $19,000. Both are active in the local Baptist church. While Susan would like to stay home exclusively with the baby, she assures that if she need to work a few hours a week, then the baby will be well kept at Mike’s Mama’s who lives down the road.
